Nigerian celebrities brought African excellence to the forefront at the 2025 Met Gala, held on Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Celebrated personalities including Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Chimamanda Adichie, and fashion designer Swanky Jerry captivated the global audience with bold fashion statements that celebrated African heritage.
This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” called for outfits reflecting cultural identity and precision tailoring. Tems turned heads in an Aso-Ebi-inspired ensemble blending African tradition with Western design, while Burna Boy stunned in a custom piece by Ozwald Boateng. Ayra Starr brought her signature flair in a sleek, daring gown, and Chimamanda Adichie, also part of the host committee, impressed in a striking red outfit.
Swanky Jerry, known for his standout designs, paid homage to African legacy in a bold look by Deji and Kola. American-Nigerian actress Ayo Edebiri also drew praise for her Benin-inspired ensemble.
The Met Gala, chaired by Vogue’s Anna Wintour, remains the most prestigious fashion fundraiser globally, with this year’s edition spotlighting Black excellence in style and storytelling.
