The highly anticipated Nollywood biopic “Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti,” directed and produced by Bolanle Austen-Peters, has made a remarkable impact at the box office, grossing ₦71 million in its opening week. 

This impressive figure was announced by FilmOne, a prominent Nigerian distribution and production company, on their Instagram page.

FilmOne shared the exciting news with a post that read, “Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti hit it big last weekend! 🙌 This movie has amassed over 71 million Naira at the box office. Thank you, Nigeria for showing love and support for this iconic movie. Let’s keep it going.”

The biopic chronicles the life of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, the mother of the legendary musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. It portrays her journey from being the first female pupil at Abeokuta Grammar School to her marriage with Israel Ransome-Kuti. 

The film highlights her relentless fight against injustices, her establishment of the Abeokuta Women’s Union, and the ensuing bloody conflicts with traditional and colonial leaders who resisted her quest for justice and fairness.

The film features a stellar cast, including Omowunmi Dada, Joke Silva, Kehinde Bankole, Adunni Ade, Iyimide Ayo-Olumoko, Ibrahim Suleiman, and Iremide Adeoye, who bring the powerful story of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti to life on screen.
