In a bid to rectify irregularities in the employment process at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) in Rumuolumeni Community, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured the public that the process will soon recommence.

This announcement comes after protests from individuals who were affected by the previous botched process. Governor Fubara, represented by Dr. George Nwaeke, Head of Rivers State Civil Service, addressed the grievances of protesters at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday. He acknowledged the intolerable irregularities that led to the cancellation of the previous employment process, emphasizing the need to eliminate such discrepancies moving forward. The Governor explained that the employment process was initially halted due to significant deviations from the approved quotas. Despite directives to employ a specific number of staff, IAUE management exceeded these limits, particularly in non-academic roles.

Governor Fubara stressed the importance of adhering to the stipulated guidelines to ensure transparency and fairness. Furthermore, Governor Fubara assured the protesters that only qualified individuals within the approved quotas would be considered for employment once the process recommences. He urged the protesters to organize themselves effectively to facilitate communication during the reinstated process. Responding on behalf of the protesters, Mr. Valentine Kponi Barinedum expressed their plea for reinstatement and payment for the nine months of work they had undertaken.

He appealed to Governor Fubara to consider their plight and take necessary actions to rectify the situation. With a new governing council in place, Governor Fubara reassured the public of opportunities for both Rivers residents and all stakeholders under the new government. The administration remains committed to ensuring a fair and transparent employment process at IAUE, aligning with its commitment to good governance and accountability.
