After two years of marriage, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, famous actors, are splitting.
Based on court records viewed by the BBC, Lopez filed for divorce in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday.
The couple, who the tabloids dubbed “Bennifer,” got married in a ceremonial ceremony in July 2022 in Las Vegas and had a more elaborate wedding ceremony in Georgia the following month.
They met while working on the set of the 2003 crime comedy Gigli, and that is how their romance started. They called off their relationship early in 2004, although they had originally intended to get married that year. Their connection was revived nearly two decades later.
“Love is a beautiful thing.” Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient,” Lopez said in 2022 after announcing the Las Vegas wedding.
According to media reports, Lopez, who had legally changed her last name to Affleck, did not include any information about a prenuptial agreement in her divorce petition. A document filed in LA’s Superior Court in the case states that both Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, must share financial information, including their current income, expenses, properties, and debts. A court filing in the case states Lopez or her attorney has to notify Affleck with a copy of her petition to dissolve their marriage.
Both parties must disclose any changes to their financial situation “until there is a final agreement about all financial issues in your case,” according to the document.
Lopez was given by the court sixty days to file a financial disclosure, and Affleck will have an additional sixty days to do the same after she turns in her data.
According to the petition, there may be a court-imposed penalty if one of them neglects to record or update financial information.
Their connection has been the subject of months’ worth of conjecture. They reportedly listed their $65 million (ÂŁ50 million) Beverly Hills property for sale and were seen out and about without their wedding bands.
Two-time Oscar winner Affleck was previously married to Jennifer Garner, an actress he met while working on the 2001 romantic film Pearl Harbor. After ten years of marriage, they separated in 2015. Together, they had three children.
Lopez has been married four times: first to Ojani Noa, a waiter from Cuba who worked from 1997 to 1998; then, from 2001 to 2003, to her former backup dancer Cris Judd; and last, from 2004 to 2014, to singer Marc Anthony, with whom she had twins.
The actor and singer J.Lo was formerly engaged to Alex Rodriguez, a great player for the New York Yankees.
