Nigerians have taken to social media, urging Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Group, to invest in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). This follows his regret over not purchasing Arsenal FC when it was valued at around $2 billion. In an interview with Bloombergâs Francine Lacqua, Dangote expressed, âActually, I regret not buying it before, but you know my money was more needed in completing my project (Dangote Refinery) than buying Arsenal.â
Football fans have called on Dangote to use his wealth to develop Nigerian football. Owochejo Francis suggested, âWhy canât you establish a football club here in Nigeria to help create more job opportunities and further promote the local league?â Another fan, Arong Usang, commented, âBuy our Nigerian teams and sponsor them.â
Others proposed specific ideas, like Adeniyi Adeleke, who urged Dangote to âinvest in the Nigerian football league by having your team, stadium, and much other stuff.â Fans also compared him to late Nigerian philanthropist Moshood Abiola, who owned a local football club. As football enthusiasts push Dangote to support NPFL, many hope his involvement could transform the league’s fortunes.
