Nollywood actor Emmanuel France has died, as confirmed by Nigerian director Olufemi Ogedengbe on Monday, September 16, 2024. Ogedengbe shared the news on Instagram, calling France a legend and recalling their work together on three films in Tanzania.

The cause of France’s death remains unknown.

Though often thought to be Ghanaian, France clarified in a 2011 interview that he identified as a “Gold Coastian” due to his heritage, while holding Nigerian citizenship, having been born in Nigeria. He worked for the Ghana Film Corporation after studying at the Accra School of Journalism.

France’s death adds to the growing list of Nigerian actors who have passed away in 2024.
