U.S.–Venezuela Tensions Spike as Caracas Rejects ‘Ridiculous’ Terror Claim”

Venezuelan authorities have strongly rejected the United States’ recent designation of the alleged “Cartel de los Soles” as a foreign terrorist organization, calling it a “ridiculous lie” fabricated to justify future military intervention.
In an official statement released by the Foreign Ministry, Caracas condemned the move by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, arguing that the so-called cartel is “non-existent” and its branding as a terrorist group serves a “classic U.S. regime-change format.”
The designation comes amid a significant U.S. military buildup in Caribbean waters — a development that critics warn could escalate tensions between Washington and the Venezuelan government.
Venezuela’s government also accused the United States of using the narco-terrorism label as a pretext for an “illegitimate and illegal intervention,” stressing that this new diplomatic maneuver “will meet the same fate as previous aggressions.”
