After weeks of anticipation, Nigerian rap icon Olamide has released a new single titled Kai, featuring Afrobeats superstar Wizkid. The track, which dropped on April 29, 2025, revives the infectious Konto bounce as both artists serenade a love interest while flaunting their affluence.

Kai marks a reunion between Olamide and Wizkid, 14 years after their first collaboration, Omo To Shan, in 2011. The new song also serves as the lead single for Olamide’s upcoming self-titled 17-track album, set to be released on June 3, 2025.

The album appears to be a shift in plans, as the Grammy-nominated rapper had initially announced a sequel to his Ikigai EP. The first installment of Ikigai—a Japanese word meaning “a reason to live”—was well-received, featuring tracks like Metaverse, Habibi, and Uptown Disco with Asake and Fireboy.

The forthcoming album will be Olamide’s 11th solo project, underscoring his decade-long dominance and adaptability in the Nigerian music scene. As a label boss of YBNL, Olamide has also played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of stars such as Adekunle Gold, Fireboy, Asake, and Lil Kesh.

With Kai and the upcoming album, Olamide looks to extend his legacy as one of the most influential artists of the 21st century.
